Not every recent-work story needs a complicated bay or shaped opening — sometimes the brief is simply to dress a straightforward bedroom window properly. In this York home, a wide three-panel opening looks out over a leafy garden; the owners wanted full-height shutters that feel built in, keep the room restful, and let them steer daylight without heavy curtains. We fitted made-to-measure plantation shutters in a soft off-white, full height from sill to coving, with louvres you can tilt for a filtered view or close for privacy. The photograph below shows how the panels sit between the wardrobes and frame the garden beyond.

Why full-height shutters suit a bedroom
Bedrooms need flexible light: bright mornings, softer afternoons, and real privacy once the curtains would normally come across. Full-height shutters give you that control in one neat stack within the recess — tilt the louvres for a gentle wash of daylight, angle them to cut glare on a mirror or TV wall, or close them when you want the room to feel cocooned.
Without bulky fabric, the space stays calm and the window line stays crisp — especially in rooms with fitted furniture either side of the opening.
Made to measure for everyday use
Even a “standard” window needs accurate width splits, hinge clearance, and a finish that operates smoothly for years. We survey on site, agree panel layout and louvre size with you, then fit so each leaf opens cleanly and the frames sit square to the architrave — the kind of detail you notice every time you adjust the slats.
